9:11 pm - This is worth a shot - help needed ASAP

Hello, you good people here!

I'm a junior Writing major taking Feature Writing. Unfortunately, because I've lived in this little bubble called the IC campus, I don't know too much about downtown or noteworthy people there. Any suggestions? I have to write an area profile on someone, and it's due next Thursday. I should be done interviewing by next week.

Any and all help would be much appreciated!

6:42 pm - Listing of New York Senators on the Fence or Opposed to Gay Marriage

20 senators publicly stated their support for equal marriage, 32 are needed to pass the bill. Please check this list and contact your state senator and urge them to support marriage equality for all couples.

Marriage is a civil rights issue, nobody should be denied the 1,800 state and federal benefits that come with marriage, such as the right to visit a loved one in a hospital, file joint tax returns, co-adopt kids, and many other rights and privileges enjoyed by heterosexual couples.

1:24 pm - Seeking actors for independent film
juicecasting Hello Ithaca Students,

I thought some of you might be interested in this opportunity.

We are a low budget independent feature film currently casting lead, supporting, and background parts. The film is about high school students who get involved in recreational steroid use. We are interested in working with young adults who can bring their own personalities and natural energy to the part, so formal training or experience are not necessary.

Below you may find a description of the project, and the roles we are casting. There are also a number of small speaking parts, so any interested parties who don't fit one of the lead character descriptions are encouraged to email us anyhow. The lead and supporting actors will be paid (rate to be determined). We are directing people to send their submissions to juicecasting@gmail.com.

Please note, this film will be shooting in the NY Metropolitan area in Summer 2009, so we are looking for people who can work as locals (so either residents of NY/NJ or people who will not need to be housed during the shoot)

1:21 pm - ride?

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone happens to be planning to drive from the Boston area to Ithaca on March 31st? I have to get to an internship at Farm Sanctuary and it would be really helpful, as the bus is a bit of a disaster. Any help appreciated. Thank you!

12:54 pm - IMC

I'm going to be a Freshman in the fall in the Exploratory program - but I've been looking at the Integrated Marketing Communications major. Can anyone tell me about it? I've looked at what the Ithaca Website is but it doesn't say much. What can someone do with an IMC Degree? Is it along the lines of Public Relations?

Hi, I hope this is allowed here. :) I've been looking at colleges lately(I'll be a junior next year. A little early, but I like to be prepared.) and Ithaca is one that has especially caught my eye. However, I don't know anybody who has attended the school, I was hoping I could get some questions answered here.

-What year are you in?
-What are you studying?
-Is it what you expected it to be?
-What do you and don't you like about the school and do you enjoy it overall?
-Do you feel like you're getting your money's worth?
-Do you feel like you've been/are being prepared for what you want to do in life?
-Are there certain attributes you feel one must have to attend Ithaca?
-For those of you in the Drama program, do you feel like you're ever pushed into an area of theatre you have no interest in, outside of required courses?
-For those of you doing the exploratory program, do you feel like it gives you a sufficent idea of what you want to do, and does it prepare you for that area of study when the time comes?
-If you could go back now, would you have chosen differently in any area of your academic decisions?

Thank you so much for any help!

1:00 pm - college freshman 08 bfa theater design/general school questions

hello! :) i'm leigh-ann. i'll be a college freshman in the fall and i'm really interested in ithaca. i got accepted into the theater production arts: design major and i have a few questions about the program and the school in general. can anyone help me?

1. is ithaca, ny, a safe place?
2. how intense is the theater bfa major? am i going to be working all the time, even on weekends and such? how late are rehearsals?
3. has anyone ever done the bfa in theater arts and honors college simultaneously? i'm really interested in honors college but the website said it is one of the few majors that would make completing both difficult.
4. how was the london program? it sounds so awesome!
5. if you've graduated from the theater design program or are going to graduate soon, have you been successful in your craft? do you have job prospects, etc.?
6. how's the financial aid office? are they nice and understanding? :p
7. how much are you missing out on the "college experience" if you're in theater design? (or any bfa major for that matter)

my decision is between ithaca and north carolina school of the arts, and maybe savannah college of art and design. both schools are great. i think i'd definitely get somewhere going to north carolina, but i'm kind of skeptical about the school itself. i really like EVERYTHING about ithaca but the job prospects MIGHT not be as bright, so i'm torn.

ANY help would be appreciated! :)

10:34 pm - Considering Ithaca 2008

I haven't used LJ for a while, and I'm pretty hopeful these responses aren't too biased. I'm from California and I'm actually considering Ithaca College for Fall 2008 as a Business Administration major. I've heard things about Ithaca's communicatios but not much about their business program.

1. Seeing as how Ithaca has a new building, how is the program-- how competitive is it? Is it "rising the ranks"?

2. I'm really thinking of transferring into Cornell, it's a dream school. I know it's difficult but is it "easier" from Ithaca? [I've heard of the Cornell-Ithaca classes]. Has it been done?

3. More on business, is it worth the move and money?
I have a scholarship that reduces tuition and dorm to about 19k/year, hopefully less with more scholarships, but seriously, how is finding internships with the program?

4. How accessible are the professors and how are the class sizes?

Thanks In Advance!

11:42 am - The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF)

March 31 to April 6, 2008

The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) is a one-week multimedia inter-arts extravaganza that reboots the environment and sustainability into a larger global conversation, embracing issues ranging from labor, war, health, disease, music, intellectual property, fine art, software, remix culture, economics, archives, AIDS, women’s rights, and human rights.

This year’s festival will focus on four new content streams: Camouflage, Counterpoint, Games, and Gastronomica.

The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival was launched in 1997 as an outreach project from the Center for the Environment at Cornell University. Always dedicated to films with a message, the festival, under program director Christopher Riley, expanded to become a major regional event in upstate New York. In 2004 Ithaca College was the major sponsor and host of the festival. In 2005 the festival moved permanently to Ithaca College, where it is housed in the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies as a program to link intellectual inquiry and debate to larger global issues. Professor of cinema, photography, and media arts Patricia Zimmerman and professor of politics Thomas Shevory are the codirectors of the festival.

9:17 pm - Ithacans - need a job? SRI Still hiring!

Hey everyone!

Sorry to bug you again but --

I've been working at the Cornell University Survey Research Institute (http://www.cornellsurveyresearch.com/sri/index.cfm?CFID=900775&CFTOKEN=34684582&) for almost 2 years now and they are currently hiring additional staff for the Empire State Poll and other projects! But you have to apply NOW because they'll only be hiring for a very limited time!!!

It's an easy job simply making calls asking people to do academic surveys and occasionally stuffing envelopes with surveys, very simple stuff. And more so, it pays well and you get to make your own hours. It's very convenient!

So, if you're interested fill out the preliminary online application at http://www.cornellsurveyresearch.com/sri/jobs.application.cfm and follow up by calling the Survey Research Institute and setting up an interview at (607) 255-3786 (you may even want to email my boss, Govind Acharya, ga47@cornell.edu).

****Be sure to put my name *Mallory Moyer* on your application because III get a little bonus for referring you ;) ******

It really is a great job and I highly recommend it if you want to make a good chunk of change doing little to nothing!

Make some cashmoney!!
Mallory :)

12:13 pm - question number five hundred two?

Hello again.

Right now, I am a freshman and declared Writing Major, and originally, I wasn't going to minor, but one of the requirements is to find something that you're really interested in outside of writing and perhaps do that as a minor. I wanted to do something with Film, unfortunately, there's no minor for it at this school.

I'm thinking as an alternative that I should double major in Writing and Cinema and Photography, but would this also be an impossible feat? Would I have to stay at IC for an inordinate amount of years and/or take summer/winter sessions to even hope to graduate on time?

Thank you in advance. I'll probably ask my advisor about it tomorrow, if anything, but I thought I'd drop by this community because I've received a lot of help here in the past.

Okay, I feel like a moron, but I keep asking people and no one knows.
How do I get to Gannett 112?
I know it's on the first floor of the library...but that's all.

(And I'm a junior. Hence, moron.)

Thanks in advance! :o)
